We are flying .... Whittles chooses The Essex Air Ambulance as its 2016/17 charity

14th June 2016

Every financial year, the partners of Essex accountancy firm Whittles, nominate a local charity to benefit from and to provide a focus for its fundraising activity throughout the year. The firm is delighted to announce that the 2016/17 charity is The Essex Air Ambulance.

Essex Air Ambulance is a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS); providing a free life-saving service for Essex and surrounding areas. Unlike NHS emergency services Essex Air Ambulance is a Charity relying solely upon the generosity and goodwill of the people and businesses of Essex to remain operational and saving lives. It costs in the region of £500,000 per month to keep both helicopters flying and cover all charitable costs, that's £5.8million a year.

Rachel Skells, Whittles' partner explains the choice of charity:

"There are so many good causes in the communities in which we all live and work and they all deserve our support. It was the prompting of those based in our office at West Mersea that led to the selection of the Air Ambulance this year.  Impressed by the work of the Charity shop on Barfield Road, the team felt that the charity excellently served the needs of both the very local and the wider regional communities."
